Big Data is a term that has been getting thrown around quite a lot over the last few years, but what does it really mean for your business context, and what are you missing without it? As the Internet grows, we’re presented with more and more data, and to maximize profit potential we need to use it - the most successful companies are increasingly adopting the axiom “all the data, all the time”. But that entails ingesting terabytes and even petabytes of data from multiple sources, and then making sense of it. While traditional SQL-based database technologies work great up to a certain point, and do provide a solid platform for top-level analytics, they’re just too hard to scale for Big Data. Volume, Variety, and Velocity are the name of the game.
